Councillors have unanimously refused a planning application proposing a new hot food takeaway in Coatbridge.
North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee agreed with a recommendation from planning officers that the proposed takeaway in Earlston Crescent would create additional disturbance and activity in a residential area, while also negatively impacting road safety and amenity.
It was also noted that a proposal to create three new parking spaces in the area was inadequate for a business of this type – and was also too far from the premises to be used by customers, who instead would be likely to park to the front of the shop where parking is also limited, causing further issues for residents.
These concerns were cited in a consultation response from the local authority’s traffic department, which recommended refusing the application, and similar issues were also raised by six residents who also objected.
The committee refused the application without members feeling the need to raise questions.
