BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -A new activity is added this year for the Holiday of Lights at Bluefield City Park, and this is one that gives visitors a fun way to view the lights.
This year, horse-drawn carriages will be available to take folks on magical holiday rides. The carriages, run by Dennis Howery, will operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays running from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. until December 21, weather permitting.
“We’re going to do some rides for the public. When I was a kid, I remember coming out here and being able to get on a horse and cart and ride around. It was very memorable, and I’d just like to give back to the community and maybe give some kids their little dream of getting to ride in a Cinderella carriage,” says Dennis Howery, owner of Howery Horse, the company operating the carriages.
Howery says putting a smile on children’s faces is what he looks forward to the most.
“This month of December, I’d like to give back to the community. We’re going to carry Santa Claus in the parade at Bluefield and Richlands, Virginia, and just show everybody the horses and hope everybody can see, and maybe have the love that we have for them,” says Howery.
Carriage rides will be listed at $10 for adults, $5 for kids aged five to twelve, and children under five are free. They are also offering private rides in their Cinderella carriage for $60.
