Louis Tomlinson has broken his social media silence to hint at some positive news, following the tragic loss of his friend and former bandmate Liam Payne who was laid to rest last week.
The 32-year-old One Direction star took to his Instagram stories today to tease new music, sharing a photo of a makeshift guitar capo he crafted from a bright yellow pen, just one week on from Liam’s funeral.
Louis appears to be hard at work writing lyrics and creating melodies for upcoming tunes as he simply captioned the snap: “DIY”.
His post comes after Louis revealed that he and Liam had plans to collaborate on new music, during a heartfelt tribute to his former One Direction colleague following his untimely death last month, the Mirror reports.
Louis shared a lengthy post on Instagram a day after the star tragically fell from a hotel balcony in Argentina, revealing news that would have thrilled all 1D fans if it had come to pass.
Louis stated that the pair had frequently discussed making music together, hoping to recapture their chemistry from their band days. Unfortunately, this will now never occur.

In his moving tribute, Louis referred to Liam as one of his best friends and the “most vital part of One Direction”.
Accompanied by a photo of the two sharing a warm embrace and smiles, Louis wrote: “Liam was an incredible songwriter with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together to try and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band.
“And for the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction. His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam.”
He then reached out to Liam directly, expressing how “beyond lucky” he felt to have had him in his life. He acknowledged their growing bond post-band, sharing that they would spend hours reminiscing over the phone—a luxury Louis believed he’d have for life.
He continued: “I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn’t to be,” wishing for one last chance to say goodbye and express his love. Louis made a heartfelt vow concerning Liam’s son Bear, promising to be the uncle Bear needs and to share stories of his father’s greatness.
Liam was recently laid to rest in Amersham, following his untimely passing after a fall from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16. Friends and family of the One Direction star gathered to mourn the loss of the 31 year old.
The singer’s coffin was seen arriving at the church via a horse-drawn hearse, with members of the public lining the streets to pay their respects. Among those in attendance were Liam’s former bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis, along with other celebrity friends.
Cheryl also made an appearance to bid a final farewell to the father of their son Bear, and was photographed alongside his family. Liam’s parents, Karen and Geoff, were greeted by the reverend upon their arrival at the church.
The coffin, adorned with white roses, was carried inside by pall bearers to join the mourners.
