As a leader in delivering green energy, ScottishPower has worked extensively to achieve its ambitious eco goals.
And the company has worked with multiple businesses to make that happen. Front and centre of those was Stemovators, a Glasgow-based business dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and tech experts.
So impressed is ScottishPower with the work its business partners have carried out to help it achieve its planet-friendly plans that it launched its ‘Supplier Awards: Delivering a Better Future through Partnerships’ event.
The businesses were invited to a celebration and awards ceremony at the IMAX theatre at the Glasgow Science Centre on November 14, where Stemovators found out it had won the Diversity & Inclusion category.
The award was for its Regional Climate Smarter project, inspiring students to think creatively and develop solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Thomas Wild, head of Stemovators, said: “The team at Stemovators are unbelievably proud that our project, which has been delivering free STEM outreach activities to schools across Scotland for nearly 40 years, has been recognised by this ScottishPower Award.
“We are continually seeking new ways to make our resources more accessible and recently developed accessibility guidelines for all our events and projects to ensure inclusivity remains a cornerstone of our work.
“This award fuels our commitment to making a positive impact to young people across Scotland.”
Thomas also explained the importance of being able to work with companies like ScottishPower: “Our work is only possible with the support of industry partners like ScottishPower to help develop the workplace skills needed for Scotland’s future.
“ScottishPower has been a vital supporter of our programme for many years and current funding allows our Climate Smarter project to give 190 free STEM kits to schools across Scotland. With ScottishPower’s funding, we are also able to provide our resources to ten schools in Glasgow and an additional five Additional Support Needs schools in North Lanarkshire.”
After the awards, Charles Langan, chief financial officer of ScottishPower, said: “We want to recognise and celebrate the work of our wide and varied supplier base, and I would like to congratulate and thank all the winners for their continued work to support the UK’s green energy transition.
“The energy sector is one of the UK’s biggest growth drivers and we injected more than £2bn into the economy over the first six months of this year. This shows how businesses right across the supply chain can benefit from the country’s clean power mission.
“Across our networks, renewables and customer businesses, we are lucky to work with some incredible companies, both big and small, who share our ethos and our goal of delivering a better future for everyone.
“ScottishPower continues to create huge opportunities for other businesses to win contracts, deliver for the UK and in turn invest in their own workforces.”
There were finalists in 10 categories, covering the important roles these partners had in pushing forward with ScottishPower’s ambitious plans, which include £24bn being invested up to 2028. This money will help deliver jobs, supply-chain contracts and economic growth across the UK.
ScottishPower invests £16m every working day to generate, transport and supply energy to its customers across the country. The company generates enough green electricity to power up to two million homes from more than 40 sites.
Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower said: “The combined commitment of ScottishPower and its partners aims to lead the way to improved air quality, cleaner electric transport and, with time, lower bills.”
So, ultimately, we’re all winners!
