HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (CNN) – Tree farmers in North Carolina are determined to keep the Christmas spirit alive despite the destruction from Hurricane Helene.
Haywood County officials said its farms are open to customers and the area is getting back to normal a little more each day.
Even though parts of I-40 are shut down, growers say visitors can still get to the area.
Two months ago, extreme flooding from Helene wiped out hundreds of trees and destroyed important equipment.
Thousands of trees, however, survived and workers were able to get things up and running just in time for the holidays.
The farms are using social media and the internet to tell potential customers they are back in business.
North Carolina grows the second-most Christmas trees in the country, including the highly popular Fraser Firs.
