A ‘gruesome’ film that’s hard to track down on streaming services will be broadcast for free this weekend on TV.
Bones and All, an unconventional road trip horror flick that plunges viewers into the cannibalistic world of teenage runaways Lee and Maren, is set to air.
The film will be shown this Sunday (December 1) at 10 pm on BBC Three, making it a perfect choice for late-night viewing.
The R-rated romantic horror, released in 2022, was directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, who previously won acclaim for his 2017 hit, Call Me By Your Name. Guadagnino reunited with the film’s lead star, Timothée Chalamet, and cast Taylor Russell as the female lead, reports the Mirror.
As one might anticipate from a narrative revolving around cannibalism, the thriller is disturbing. However, it also explores profound themes such as loneliness, the quest for belonging, and the real price of love.
Guadagnino isn’t the only creative force behind this twisted story. The tale of Lee and Maren is based on Camille DeAngelis’ 2015 novel of the same name, and the screenplay for the horror was penned by David Kajganich, a frequent collaborator of Guadagnino’s.
Following its release, Russell bagged the Best Young Actress award at the Venice Film Festival, and the duo’s performances received widespread acclaim from cinema enthusiasts.
Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a fresh rating of 82%, with most reviews expressing admiration for the unique yet thought-provoking storyline.
On IMDB, the movie managed a fair 6.8/10 stars rating; nonetheless, the film’s reception was far from lukewarm with viewers effusively praising it.
One cinema buff raved: “BONES AND ALL is an intense, heart-breaking, and uplifting tale that is sure to leave an impact. It’s a must-watch for anyone who enjoys horror and romance, or simply needs a reminder of the power of love. Be warned though – this movie has lots of blood and gore, so it’s not for the faint of heart.”
Another critic penned a piece titled ‘Extremely gruesome love story’, observing: “Bones and All at its core is a love story; a story of outcasts trying to figure out how to exist in the world. Don’t let the underlying love story fool you, this is NEXT LEVEL GORY! If you are squeamish in any way, Bones and All is not for you.”
A third reviewer offered straightforward advice to potential audiences: “Not for the faint-hearted and definitely don’t eat a lot before the movie.”
Despite the warm reception by critics, the motion picture didn’t make waves at the box office, garnering only $15.2 million worldwide against a reported budget of $16-20 million.
Bones and All airs this Sunday December 1 on BBC Three at 10pm
