Antonio Conte reckons Scott McTominay‘s early displays in Napoli colours show that the club ‘got it right’ in splashing £25million on the Scotland star after his man of the match performance against Torino.
McTominay extended his goal tally to four in his first 12 appearances by netting with a delightful finish in his side’s 1-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to keep Gli Azzurri top of Serie A going into December. Some eyebrows were raised when Conte’s team forked out £25million to land the Tartan Army hero from Manchester United at the end of the summer transfer window, but the former Chelsea and Juventus boss feels his decision has been more than justified.
Speaking to DAZN, he said: “I accepted Napoli because it is a great club, I did not set any conditions for my arrival. It is inevitable though that if they ask me to reinforce the squad, I try to pick the best players.
“We did well with Scott because he was not a starter at Manchester United, but I already knew him very well and we worked under the radar to bring him here. Of course everyone is eager to prove themselves and I am glad that we got it right choosing McTominay.”
