Law and District Amateur Athletic Club members have been in fine form across events at home and abroad over the past month.
The National Short Course in Kirkcaldy saw athletes from all over Scotland compete over a fast and relatively flat course.
First up were the U15 girls competing over 2000m, with Lucy Taylor finishing in 10th in a field of 84, Olivia Inglis 37th, Eilidh Boyle 63rd, Molly Baxter 66th, Freya Togneri 75th and Sarah Chambers 79th.
In the U15 boys Cameron Chambers finished 8th of 74 and Blair Beverley 28th.
The Senior/U20/Masters all competed together over 4000m, with Emily McNicol representing Glasgow University in 13th of 281, Jessica Inglis 35th, Elaine Boyle 144th, Christine Neill 153rd, Jen Beattie 160th and Lesley Graham 178th.
In the men’s race, U20 Ryan Kellock finished 115th of 467, Allan Neill 124th, Jordon Morrison 174th, Ross Hill 277th, Bobby Hill 323rd, Finn Milligan 324th, Rich Beattie 364th, Mark Milligan 378th and James Scullion 443rd.
Meanwhile, Law’s younger athletes were enjoying warmer climbes at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, competing at the Indoor League, with many fine performances from the club’s U11s, U13s, U15s and U17s in 60m, 200m, 800, shot put, hurdles, high jump and long jump.
The youngsters then moved on to Springburn Harriers Junior Cross Country races with many taking part in their very first cross country event, with medal wins for all competitors.
In Wales, four young athletes competed in the Cardiff Cross Country Challenge, with U13 Alexander Wotherspoon finishing 5th and 1st Scot, U13 Helena Wotherspoon 29th and 2nd Scot, U15 Olivia Inglis 25th and 1st Scot and U20 Jessica Inglis 16th and 1st Scot. Masters athlete Bobby Wotherspoon finished 2nd in his age category.
Congratulations were also in order for senior Ross MacDonald, who made it two in a row at the Newton Roadrunners 10km. Ross retained the Newton Road Shield, improving his time from 2023 finishing in 32:19.
Fellow senior Grant Kerr had a solid run in just over 45 minutes, as he builds up his training for the Valencia marathon next month.
Two of Law’s Masters athletes received well deserved selection to represent Scotland at the British and Irish International Masters Cross Country in Belfast, with Mark Hand finishing 33rd in the men’s 50-64 age group race and Allan Neill finishing 7th in the 8km open race, with a time of 28.44mins.
A big well done goes to senior Jen Beattie, who finished the Ultra X Race in Morocco in 16th place overall and as second female. The race encompassed 110km of ‘sensory journey, past Kasbahs, through traditional fortified villages, lush oases and over rocky desert. Jen’s time was an impressive 12 hrs 36mins, finishing less than 10 minutes behind the 1st female finisher.
Finally, congratulations go to Emily McNicol on winning silver at the Scottish Students Cross Country Championships in Aberdeen, over a hilly 8.5km course in 32.33mins. Emily and team-mates Flora Henry, Ruby McGill and Carla Barennes, all from Glasgow University, went on to win silver in the team awards.
Preparations are now underway for the West District Cross Country Championships on November 30 and the second match of the indoor league at Emirates Arena in early December.
