AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating after a body was found in Lady Bird Lake on Sunday morning.

According to police, a person was found dead in the 300 Zone of the lake.

No other information is available at this time. APD is expected to provide more details in a briefing on Sunday.

The incident comes as safety improvements have been made along the lake’s trails following several drownings in recent years.

Some of the changes include adding lighting along East Avenue and the trail, putting a camera at the corner of Rainey and Cummings streets and extending the sidewalk along East Avenue.

Fence improvements were also completed this year. A gate was added to the top of the stairs across from the Milago, and signage for wayfinding is being designed in partnership with the Trail Conservancy.

The Trail Conservancy is working on the Rainey Street Trailhead Project that also addresses lighting and signage.
