A fallen tree has forced the closure of one of Ayrshire’s trunk roads.

The A77 is expected to remain closed for “several hours” between Girvan and Stranraer following the incident near Glenapp this morning (Monday, December 2).

Drivers are being advised to expect delays and a diversion has been put in place.

Maintenance crews are onsite as the road operator Amey work to get the road reopened.

A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: “The A77 is closed to all traffic, between Girven and Stranraer.

“Road remains closed in both directions due to a fallen tree.

“The road operator are now carrying out emergency works to clear the tree.

“Road users are advised to follow local diversion and expect longer journey times.”

A spokesperson for Amey added: “#The A77 closed in both directions between Girvan and Stranraer due to a dangerous tree at Carlock Hill (Glenapp). Diversion in place. Closure expected to remain in place for several hours.”
