Evergreen Jamie Murphy insists he has plenty of petrol left in the tank at Ayr United.

The former Rangers and Brighton star is the veteran of Scott Brown’s Somerset squad and was on target as the Honest Men made round four of the Scottish Cup with victory over Morton on Saturday.

And the 35-year-old confessed his hunger to keep performing is still as big as ever.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of niggling injuries this season but that’s always going to happen when you get older.

“It’s about trying to keep myself as right as I can so I can keep contributing. Whether that be to start games, come on or even behind the scenes, I want to do a bit of everything.

“As long as I feel good I want to keep playing. I’d like that to be here. I feel I can keep up with the young ones in training every day and out on the pitch.”

Murphy and Ayr have bounced back with three wins on the spin following a slump in form. It comes ahead of a big December with United set to face Partick, Falkirk and Livingston in crunch Championship clashes.

And the winger added: “This sets us up for three important games against teams fighting at the top end of the table.

“Every game is important in the league but we’ll be ready for the challenges ahead of us.”
