Iceland and The Food Warehouse are to introduce a checkout change which will give older shoppers more for their money – but there’s a catch.

The new scheme will see a discount given to those over 60, with them benefitting from 10 per cent off their shopping. But it is not offered daily.

The discount scheme – which can only be enjoyed by customers on Tuesdays – is available in both The Food Warehouse and Iceland stores, and does not have a minimum spend.

The Mirror reports that, to be eligible for the discount, customers need to bring in a photo ID to show at the checkout to prove they’re the right age.

It can be a Senior Bus pass, Driver’s Licence, The Senior Railcard, or a Freedom Pass. Richard Walker, managing director at Iceland, spoke about the scheme:

He said: “We are so pleased with how well the over 60s discount has been received by the public and love hearing stories from customers who are benefiting from the discount.

“The cost of living crisis continues to cause distress in the everyday lives of these customers and that’s why we want to keep doing what we can to support them.”

It’s not just senior citizens who can bag a bargain at Iceland, the retailer also offers discounts to emergency service workers who have a Blue Light Card.

Eligible shoppers are able to save £3 when they spend £60 or more, when shopping online. While students can claim back a one-time discount for shopping at Iceland via Student Beans, getting £6 off a minimum spend of £45.
