Janey Godley’s daughter Ashley Storrie took to social media to say her “cup is empty” after her mother’s funeral.

The 38-year-old, who has autism, shared that it’s time to focus on being herself again, “not ‘dying mum Ashley’ or ‘grieving Ashley’ but just Ashley”.

Scottish comedian Janey sadly passed away last month after her long battle with ovarian cancer.

The comedy legend began her “final tour” of “the city she loved,” with her hearse making its way through Edinburgh on Friday, ahead of her St Andrew’s Day funeral, the following day at St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow.

And after Janey’s celebration of life, her daughter has admitted that she has been struggling with both her autism and her grief being so public.

In an Instagram post, she wrote: “My cup is empty. I have no spoons left. Autism vs Public grief is a minefield and a head f*ck. in a wee while I’m going to unpack it all and talk to you about it, cause eventually I’ll need to talk about it and yous are great listeners. Thank you for the kindness.”

Alongside a photograph of the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, she penned further: “And that’s it done. It’s done. Thank you, as always, for your love and support. This funeral was what mum wanted. I did my last daughterly duty to her. Now i need to turn my attention back to being me. Not dying mum Ashley, or funeral Ashley, or grieving Ashley. Just Ashley. Those masks can go back in the cupboard now.”

Many fans were quick to comment giving their support to Ashley, as one wrote: “You honoured your mum beautifully. Be kind to yourself now as she would want xx” as another said: “All here together in life. Thanks and love to you.”

With another commenting: “The inner strength you have shared publicly is Inspiring through you just being you and sharing this Post. Get some rest, get angry, get sad , that is what people do , but most important, take a day at a time to start getting better.”

Ashley, also a comedian, displayed incredible strength by standing up and delivering an emotional speech to honour her mum at the funeral.

She said: “Hiya, my ma asked that I headline her funeral, cause she was like that so here I am, I can’t do any of her jokes cause ‘house of God’ and that.

“My mum is very grateful to all of you who came out yesterday to Edinburgh and lined the Royal Mile and lifted your voices in song and the people who have come today to remember her in the best way possible.

“My mam was very much the daughter of Glasgow, she loved her city dearly it was her favourite place in the whole wide world.

“The emblem of Glasgow is the tree that never grew and the bell that bever rang and the bird that never flew and the fish that never swam, and I think she took that as a challenge – it felt like the world was telling her to be quiet be small don’t get big so she did the opposite” she continued.

Ashley was the one to announce her mother’s death online last month.

During an Instagram video Ashley said: “Earlier this morning Janey passed away in her sleep. Her family were with her.” As she thanked fans and friends for all their support during Janey’s journey, urging fans to “Remember her in your laughter, she would have liked that.”
