PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Victoria West had the rare opportunity to handle one of the balloons at the historic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
West said the journey to make it was a difficult one that took many years.
“It literally it was constant knocking on doors, asking and begging, and just researching the situation to get into the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” West said. “You have to know somebody that is already established with the parade and or works at Macy’s. I’ve been trying for seven years to get involved in the parade, and it helps that I’m in the balloon industry.”
Victoria got to help carry one of the minions from the popular Despicable Me franchise.
West added that the energy of the crowd makes the experience seem very short in the long run.
“You really don’t even know that you’re 2 1/2 miles in,” West added. “Like literally, the energy is so intense. The crowd was amazing, my teammates were fantastic and just you blink, and it was over.”
West concluded by saying she would be thrilled to do it all over again.
“Absolutely, I would do it again.”
