INSTITUTE, W.Va. – After an almost month-long hiatus, the WVSSAC Class A State volleyball tournament began at West Virginia State University.
Two local teams clashed in the No. 2 Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers and No. 7 River View Lady Raiders in the quarterfinals. River View battled to start in both the first and third sets, but Greenbrier West would be too much to handle, taking down the Lady Raiders 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-21).
Greenbrier West matched up in the semifinals with No. 3 seed Wirt County Lady Tigers. Every set of this matchup was tight with Greenbrier West trailing at different points throughout, but the Lady Cavaliers would clutch up in all three to win 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22). Greenbrier West wins to advance to play in its first-ever state championship in program history against the No. 1 seed East Hardy at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
