A Dumfries and Galloway town has been named as one of the top places in Scotland to escape to during the winter months.

Kirkcudbright made it into the top 10 of the most Idyllic Scottish small towns in winter compiled by House of Bruar.

The independent country fashion retailer stated: “This coastal town is home to several beaches that make great walking spots on a crisp winter morning.

“The town is also filled with dollhouse-like buildings and plenty of photo opportunities.”

The list was compiled based on Instagram hashtag data, with the Artists’ Town of Kirkcudbright coming sixth.

Kelso in the Scottish Borders was the top place, ahead of Portree on Sky and Linlithgow in West Lothian.

House of Bruar added: “These destinations are perfect if you’re looking to explore the road less travelled and experience some breathtaking sights as the weather cools.”
