A Lanarkshire musical theatre student is helping to spread some Christmas cheer as he joins the star-studded cast of Rumpelstiltskin in panto at Glasgow’s Platform Theatre.
Taylor McInnes, 20, a second year HND Musical Theatre Student at Glasgow Kelvin College, joins the ensemble cast playing the wild and wonderful spirits of the ‘Northern Lights’ in the East End theatre.
Commenting on his big break, Taylor said: “I’m excited to be performing and having the opportunity to learn new choreography and meet new people.”
Rehearsals are in full swing for the 34-show run from Tuesday, December 3, till Tuesday, December 24, which is packed full of songs, jokes and larger-than-life characters taking audiences on a magical adventure to find out who Rumpelstiltskin really is.
Rumpelstiltskin has never fitted in, but he’s excited to head out into the world and start making friends. Sadly the world doesn’t feel the same. No one really talks to him and some people are a little bit mean.
Meanwhile, Princess Bunnyflops has lots of friends and, with her fluffy tail and sparkly eyes, everyone thinks she’s great. Join Rumpelstiltskin as he tries to make friends with the Princess and find his way in the world… and find out if he won’t be alone for Christmas after all.
The lead cast of the show includes Scarlett Mack (Outlander, The Nest, Dog Squad, Rab C Nesbitt, Princess Mirror Belle), Michael Guest (The Fall, Damaged, Ravens Hollow) and Adam Buksh (Scot Squad, The Stand, One Mississippi).
Artistic director of Platform arts centre, Matt Addicott, said: “Everyone at Platform is delighted to be working with students from the HND Musical Theatre course from Glasgow Kelvin College.
“This will be the third festive production that second year students have joined us on and we are very excited to start rehearsing. Joining the cast of Rumpelstiltskin is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with highly experienced professional performers, directors, designers, choreographers, vocal coaches, technicians and stage managers.
“Whilst for our audiences, it’s a real treat to see the stage full of such talented and enthusiastic performers – we wish them every success with the show and the rest of their studies and beyond.”
Created for everyone over the age of five, Rumpelstiltskin is written by Lewis Hetherington, directed by Rosalind Sydney and presented by Platform in association with Glasgow Kelvin College.
Lecturer in Performing Arts at Glasgow Kelvin College, Dimitrios Paparakis, said: “Glasgow Kelvin College Performing Arts department is delighted to be part of this year’s performance of Rumpelstiltskin at Platform.
“The opportunity for our learners to develop while working alongside a fantastic creative team and professional actors at Platform has been an invaluable experience for our musical theatre students – and help bridge gaps that exist between education and industry.”
