A woman who slammed into a golf cart while drunk on a South Carolina beach, killing a bride and injuring the groom en route from their wedding reception, pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 27, pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and two felony DUI counts at the Charleston County courthouse before being sentenced by Judge Deadra Jefferson.

Komoroski was given three prison sentences, one for each charge, to be served concurrently. She has been jailed without bond since the April 2023 crash and was indicted in September 2023.

The tragedy unfolded on April 28, 2023, after Komoroski drank at several bars before getting behind the wheel and driving 65 mph on a narrow, 25 mph road along Folly Beach, police said. She slammed into the golf cart as it left the wedding, throwing it 100 yards. Her blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving.

Samantha Miller, the 34-year-old bride, was killed, still in her wedding dress, and groom Aric Hutchinson suffered a brain injury and several broken bones. Three others in the golf cart were also injured.

On Monday, Komoroski, said she was “devastated, deeply ashamed and sorry.”  But Miller’s tearful young widower was inconsolable

“On the golf cart, she told me she didn’t want the night to end, and I kissed her on the forehead, and then the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital,” Hutchinson said. “I wish I had died that night. I wish I had seen it coming. I’d have jumped off the golf cart so you would only have run me over.”
