LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT/Gray News) – For one Kentucky man, persistence has paid off in the form of a major lottery win.
The numbers on Billy Glenn’s Lucky for Life lottery ticket matched the five white balls drawn Nov. 19 to win the game’s second prize of $25,000 per year, WKYT reports.
Glenn told lottery officials he has been buying Lucky for Life tickets since the first day of sales in 2015. He plays the same two sets of numbers consisting of anniversaries and jersey numbers of his favorite Major League Baseball players.
“I’ve been playing for nine years, seven months, and 29 days since the day I won Lucky For Life,” he told lottery officials. “I’ve just been waiting for the dream.”
Glenn was at home when he checked his ticket. He realized the first five numbers matched, but he missed the Lucky Ball number – by just one. His Lucky Ball number was 12, and he needed a 13.
“I was that close from getting it all,” he said.
The Lucky for Life second prize of $25,000 a year for life has a minimum payout of 20 years, or $500,000. Glenn collected his winnings at lottery headquarters, chosing the cash option payout of $390,000. He received a check for $280,804.32 after taxes.
“It’s been a blessing,” he said. “I’ve been stressing for the last six months.”
Glenn says he first plans to pay off debt and do some things around the house with the money.
