Queen Camilla has been diagnosed with pneumonia, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. Her Majesty informed guests at the state visit of Qatar’s Emir and his wife that her recent chest infection was actually pneumonia.

Camilla is now dealing with post-viral fatigue and has had to skip the outdoor elements of the Qatari visit on doctor’s orders, who have advised her to take additional time to recuperate. Although she did not require hospitalisation, she is experiencing extreme tiredness as a result of her illness.

It has been clarified that Camilla’s pneumonia was viral in nature and she is no longer suffering from it. She missed the ceremonial welcome on Horse Guards Parade on Tuesday due to the cold weather.

This update follows the announcement made by the Palace just yesterday, stating that the Queen would be absent from the ceremonial welcome during the Qatari state visit due to significantly reduced energy levels after her chest infection.

Doctors have recommended that the 77-year-old takes ample rest to fully recover from the lingering effects of the illness, which she caught a month ago following her extensive travels to Australia and Samoa.

The Queen’s persistent infection has led her to withdraw from several engagements, most notably earlier in November when she was unable to attend various Remembrance Day commemorations. She had to forgo the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance and the traditional Cenotaph wreath laying, events which King Charles and other UK dignitaries attended, reports the Mirror.

Instead, she marked the occasion “privately at home”.

The Queen also had to withdraw from the Royal Variety Performance last week, with Buckingham Palace releasing a statement regarding her health. The palace announced that she “continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms”, and would be resting on doctors’ advice.

Despite previous assurances from royal sources that there had been no change in Camilla’s diagnosis or treatment, it was acknowledged that the Queen requires time to fully recuperate, which is difficult with a packed schedule like a state visit. No significant alterations to her diary for the upcoming week are anticipated, but she has been counselled by her medical team to take each day as it comes.

In contrast, Kate is gearing up for a busier week, gradually increasing her public engagements after concluding her chemotherapy in the summer. The princess is set to host her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday, an event where she is expected to be accompanied by her children and husband.
