An Aberdeen-based plumbing, heating and sewerage company is being praised for its excellent patter after a photo of one of its vans went viral on Reddit.

Drain Surgeon, based in Bridge of Don, is a local independent business first established in 2014, and from the name of the company alone you can tell that the owner has a good sense of humour.

However, it was actually the van’s unique and very Scottish number plate that caught the eye of a fellow driver recently. Its registration officially reads SH11 TES.

After snapping a quick photo of the hilarious sight, social media user @phase_lag uploaded it to the Scotland subreddit, where it quickly went viral, getting over 1000 “upvotes” and 31 comments.

The photo sparked a few people’s memories, who shared that they’d seen similar funny number plates on their travels.

One of the top replies is: “Lol, nice. There is one in Edinburgh as well, Brown & Co plumbing. Their number plate is P00 805S,” while someone else joked: “I bet they are number one for number twos.”

Another person wrote: “There’s also another plumber’s van I’ve seen about that has reg WH05 HYT.”

A fourth commenter also couldn’t resist joining in, saying: “My favourite is still Grant Henderson Tankers from over in Hamilton. Their web address is www.wemovesh.it.” A fifth replied: “Grant Henderson are the absolute best! Was gonna post that exact thing!”

The thread ended with a truly excellent dad joke: “He must be filthy rich to afford that plate.”

It isn’t the first time the van has gone viral. It also tickled people’s collective funny bones in 2018.

At the time, Robert Cadger, managing director of Drain Surgeon, told the Daily Record: “I have only had it about a year. I initially had it on my van but decided it was perfect for one of the vans at work.

“When you drive around you think people are being nice and letting you out but they just want to take a picture of the number plate. I see it as an investment for the firm and it is a bit of a laugh as well.

“To be honest I was quite surprised the DVLA allowed it.”

It all definitely proves that Scots have the best sense of humour.
