AUSTIN, Texas — Two people were arrested last week after police said they stole roughly $1,000 of merchandise in North Austin.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said 43-year-old Omar Cuellar Sanchez and 27-year-old Dailena Rodriguez Herrera were arrested on Nov. 22 outside of a Marshall’s on 10515 N. Mopac Expressway.
At roughly 3:15 p.m., responders arrived to Marshall’s after the store said the suspects hid shoes and wallets in their clothes. They also appeared to have gotten rid of some of the items’ anti-theft devices.
Law enforcement detained Sanchez and Herrera and found they had stolen $312.61 worth of items, along with the equipment used to get rid of the theft prevention devices.
Officers then checked the suspects’ vehicles, where they discovered shopping bags with stolen items from Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx and Ross Dress for Less. The items included wallets, shoes and body spray. Marshall’s later said $548.79 of the products came from their store.
Both Sanchez and Herrera have been charged with Organized Retail Theft.
APD’s North Metro Tactical Response Unit and North Criminal Investigation Department worked alongside roughly 20 retailers to help find the shoplifters in the North Austin area. The teams particularly focused on The Domain, Gateway, Arbor Walk and The Arboretum.
