Ally McCoist was left in fits of laughter on air after Fraserburgh boss Mark Cowie joked he’s been able to give the physio a month off.
The Highland League club landed the golden ticket in the Scottish Cup fourth round as club chiefs start counting the cash now with a big money spinning tie at Rangers pulled out the hat. The two sides have met previously in the competition, but this time the game will be at Ibrox. Cowie has opened up on the immediate scenes in his family home following Monday’s late night draw and he told how he has around six first-team members buzzing for the tie due to supporting Philippe Clement‘smen.
It’s quite a remarkable story, and one Rangers hero McCoist was all over on thetalkSPORT breakfast show. But it was the quip surrounding the Fraserburgh club physio that got really caught him off guard.
Delivering his reaction to drawing Rangers, the Broch boss said: “It’s amazing how football can change over the space of a couple of days. We are all looking forward to it. These things don’t happen very often and the fact it is at Ibrox, I’ve got maybe half a dozen Rangers fans in the squad who are a little bit excited to say the least.
“The draw was later on in the evening so I was at home with my wife. You always have that hope that something might happen. When it came out I woke the kids up, my dog started going a bit crazy and I wasn’t the best person in the house for a while. But it is what dreams are made of.”
He then quipped: “I’ve been able to give the physio the next month off. Between now and January 18th and 19th. The players have got something to look forward to and prove they all want to play in that match.”
McCoist, in fits of laughter, responded: “Give the physio the month off. Love it.”
