PHOENIX (KTVK/KPHO/Gray News) – Police confirm an 8-year-old boy died after being hit by a statue outside an upscale Phoenix resort.
Phoenix fire crews responded to reports of a child who had been injured at the Arizona Biltmore resort around 9 a.m. last Wednesday, KTVK/KPHO reports.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller confirmed that the child had been struck by a “concrete object.” Video from the scene showed a broken statue that had fallen outside the resort.
The 8-year-old boy was rushed to a hospital in extremely critical condition. Police confirm he died the next day, which was Thanksgiving.
In an update provided Monday afternoon, police called the incident a “tragic accident” and say there are no signs of foul play. The child’s name is not being released.
Neither police nor the resort have said what exactly happened.
The Biltmore said in a statement that their thoughts are with the boy’s family.
