Parts of Dumfries and Galloway are set to be battered by gale force winds.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning from Thursday afternoon with gusts of up to 70mph possible.
The west of the region is being urged to prepare for travel delays and short term power losses, with coastal communities potentially being affected by spray and large waves.
The warning will come into effect at 3pm on Thursday and last until 6am on Friday, with “some disruption possible from strong and gusty winds”.
A Met office forecaster said: “Westerly or northwesterly winds will increase across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, north Wales, northern England, the north Midlands and East Anglia during Thursday afternoon and evening.
“Inland gusts of 40-50mph are possible, with perhaps 60-70 mph along exposed coasts, especially through the North Channel and Irish Sea, causing some travel disruption.
“Strong gusts will also be associated with heavy showers which move through at times.”
