Robby McCrorie insists it was an easy decision to swap Rangers for Kilmarnock as the keeper prepares for a first return to Ibrox.

Killie head to Glasgow this evening (Wednesday) to take on Rangers as they look to end a run of four games without a victory — which has seen them slip to 10th in the table.

Marley Watkins was the late matchwinner when the teams met at Rugby Park in October and McCrorie admits he’d gladly take the same result again even if it means upsetting a few old pals.

The 26-year-old spent over a decade at the club but failed to make the breakthrough, tallying just seven first team appearances.

He said: “The main thing is that I’m going there as a Kilmarnock player and wanting to get a good result for Kilmarnock.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be playing at one of the biggest and best stadiums and you’ve just got to embrace it.

“The hardest bit about leaving was that you build up good relationships with people over a long period of time.

“It was easy for me to get out because I wanted to play games but I get on with a lot of people from before. But I’m here for football first and foremost and it’s a huge game for us and a chance to get a bit of momentum.”

He added: “It was an easy move and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way — but I’m thankful for it. The gaffer and folk at the club did a lot to make it happen and I’m enjoying it. I’ve had a run of games and I just want to keep improving.”

Boss Derek McInnes is hopeful that winger Matty Kennedy can be fit for the trip to Ibrox, while David Watson should be good to go after being an unused sub in the weekend draw against Dundee.

The boss said: “Davie hadn’t trained all week. He was okay for the bench but we resisted bringing him on and he should be a bit more game ready now.

“We’re hoping Matty can make it after having a couple of injections in his back last week. Kyle Magennis is back training and he’s getting closer .”

As for the game, McInnes said: “We’ve got to try and reference a lot of what we did against them not so long ago.

“It’s different circumstances of course, but it’s important we try and be as good as we were. You almost need to be perfect out of possession when you’re playing a team of Rangers’ quality.”
