Tenants are settling into their new council homes in Gartcosh thanks to an “off-the-shelf” project with Bellway Homes.
The 12 new properties within the £1.8 million Cloverhill development, on the site of the former Mount Ellen Golf Course, comprise a mix of four one-bedroom cottage flats and eight three-bedroom terraced houses.
They form part of North Lanarkshire Council’s new supply programme which aims to deliver 5000 new homes across the area by 2035.
The new homes were purchased directly from developer Bellway as part of an agreement to meet the council’s Affordable Housing Policy, which has seen almost 200 new homes delivered for council tenants since its inception.
Off-the-shelf purchases complement the local authority’s traditional design and build projects – and support its ambitious delivery targets.
Attending the handover event was housing convener, Councillor Michael McPake, who was joined by representatives from Bellway Homes, housing officers and new tenant Maureen McVay.
Councillor McPake told Lanarkshire Live: “It’s great to see tenants enjoying their new homes and it’s always pleasing to mark the completion of another successful housing project.
“Working with housing developers and buying new ‘off-the-shelf’ properties is just one of the ways we provide modern, affordable homes for our tenants.
“From the outset, we discuss the specification of our new homes ensuring they are built to include our accessibility and sustainability standards.
“This project is an excellent example of how we’re successfully delivering new, high quality homes, in partnership with developers, making a real difference to the lives of our tenants, our communities and the local economy.”
The 12 new homes at Jigger Grove mark the second phase of homes bought from Bellway within Gartcosh, following the purchase of 16 homes at Levern Way in 2019.
Pauline Coates, sales director, Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland West), said: “Jigger Grove is a fantastic example of how a successful collaboration can transform a vision into a desirable new community.
“It offers tenants attractive energy efficient homes in a lovely setting and I hope they will be very happy in their new surroundings.”
The project cost £1.8 million, which included Scottish Government Grant Support of £1.17 million.
