Drew McIntyre has lashed out at “BS” rumours about him after his shock WWE return on Monday Night Raw.
The 39-year-old Rangers fan from Ayr made his comeback on Monday’s edition of RAW at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington and laid out Sami Zayn with his signature ‘Claymore’ following the former Intercontinental Champion’s main event loss to Seth Rollins. McIntyre had been off WWE TV since October’s Bad Blood pay-per-view/premium live event when his feud with CM Punk came to an end inside Hell in a Cell.
The two competitors had a widely praised match, during which McIntyre suffered a toolbox shot to the head that left him needing 16 staples to close the wound. The internal reaction within WWE was that Punk and McIntyre brought back the sense of danger and ferociousness that made Hell in a Cell such a popular stipulation.
While backstage following WWE Raw, McIntyre said: “If you don’t hear it from me live on WWE TV or on my social channels, assume every single thing you hear about Drew McIntyre is BS. Oh, and how soon you all forget.”
McIntyre has been one of WWE’s top stars throughout 2024 and he briefly held the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. WWE chief content officer Triple H noted that rumours he was injured were wide of the mark, as he spoke at a media event about RAW’s premiere on Netflix.
“He was dying to come back,” Triple H said. “He wasn’t hurt, he wasn’t injured. Let’s just give you a little breather here for a second. And whether that’s spending some time at home enjoying your family, whatever that is, or whether that’s, hey, I have this other project I wanna work on.
“I have this project that Netflix has come up with, I’m gonna work on that. Whatever. Us having that ability to morph and shift things around and keep things fresh, I think is a tremendous opportunity for us. So, I’d look for more of that too.”
