I’m a Celeb’s Melvin Odoom has candidly revealed his near-escape from the popular series. Melvin opened up about being saved by a security guard during a storm after he found himself in distress and needing help.

Melvin describes waking up drenched amidst a night-time storm after battling with hunger the night before. “I had my mic on, and I was like, ‘guys, I want help.’ This guy came out like a commando…he had a light on, and he’s like, ‘Melvin, are you okay? Come with me,'” he told the Mirror.

Viewers were touched to see Melvin’s emotional moment with Oti Mabuse during the incident. He admitted that the support provided by his fellow campmates was even more extensive than what was broadcasted.

Confronted with quitting the show, he admitted: “Yes, because I found it difficult, and I thought the finish line seemed quite far away.”

Despite the challenges, Melvin felt compelled to stay, driven by the memories of a premature departure from Strictly Come Dancing, as reported by the Mirror.

Melvin reflected with determination: “I didn’t want to let my family down. And the most similar process to this that I’ve ever done in my life was Strictly and I was the first person out, and I was aware of that in my head.”

Melvin openly admitted that his emotional nature made him feel somewhat out of place in the camp, especially when compared to stoic campmates like Oti, Alan, and Coleen. “You’ve got people like Oti and Alan who are really strong, and Coleen, who I don’t think she shed a tear once during the time when I was there,” he said.

“And I was like, ‘How can I sit here crying when these guys have got little babies at home, and they’re just holding it together?'”

After being the fourth celebrity to be voted out of the I’m A Celebrity jungle, Melvin confessed to Ant and Dec in his live exit interview: “I was ready to go. The best thing about that camp is the people, I loved every single person in there.”

Discussing his special connection with Oti, he continued: “Oti reminds me of my sister who I am really close to. As you guys, know she’s super positive and super funny at all times which you need in camp.”
