Outlander fans were absolutely inconsolable after an unexpected interaction in the latest episode featuring a beloved returning character.

In the 10th episode of season seven, Brotherly Love, the zealous Geillis Duncan (played by Lotte Verbeek) returns, years before she ever set her sights on Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

Searching for his kidnapped son Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller), Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) unwittingly finds himself back in the past years before his intended destination and meets up with his ancestors.

While he and William ‘Buck’ MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) are no closer to finding the lost youngster, fans did get the chance to witness Geillis’ flirtatious first meeting with Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish).

However, this wasn’t before Geillis tried her luck with Roger, her own several times great-grandson, who swiftly rejects her.

This awkward moment was recently shared to Outlander’s official Instagram page and received an ecstatic reaction from fans.

“The most uncomfortable few moments that Roger probably won’t soon forget,” one viewer commented.

“Geillis Face At The End. PRICELESS,” another exclaimed.

“This moment was hilarious, the narrations from Roger in these moments are too funny also,” someone else responded.

A third comment read: “Love, love, love Roger’s reaction and response. Hearing his thoughts just make these scenes!!”

“Such a weird moment but I’m loving this second half of S7!” another remarked.

And a final fan commented: “I’m loving the comedy amongst all of the drama! One minute we are laughing and then the next we are crying!!”

This viewer hit the nail on the head as this episode also featured a devastating twist for Claire back in Philadelphia.

Forced to leave Scotland to aid Lord John Grey (David Berry) and his brother Henry Grey (Harry Jarvis), she’s given the tragic news that her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) has supposedly perished at sea.

Will this latest demise stick, though? Most fans are convinced Jamie will turn up alive and well sooner rather than later as his body has yet to be seen.

As one fan put it on Reddit: “I never believe they are dead until I see the death on screen.”

To which someone else replied: “And we’re talking about one of the two main characters.

“He’s not dying off screen in the 2nd episode of a new midseason… Very cheap and rushed cliffhanger imo.”

Despite the mixed responses, the show’s legions of fans will still be tuning in for the next chapter in the Fraser saga this Friday.

Outlander season seven part two continues Fridays on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
