Police Scotland is cracking down on bus bandits after a number of incidents involving public service vehicles in different parts of the country.
Officers in Edinburgh and Renfrewshire have been working to ensure the transport network is as safe as possible over the last few days.
In Edinburgh, a probe is underway following a number of incidents of thugs throwing unspecified missiles at moving buses in the city’s Liberton and Gilmerton areas.
Earlier today, Police Constables Fowler and Kelly and Fowler headed out with Lothian Buses staff and patrolled the areas most impacted by the anti-social behaviour.
The action was revealed in a post on the Police Scotland Edinburgh Facebook page, accompanied by a picture of the officers on board one of the services.
Community Sergeant Jen Macgregor said: “These incidents are very dangerous to both the drivers and passengers onboard. We do not tolerate this and are making every effort to identify those responsible.
“If anyone has any information regarding this, please contact 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.” A similar post was also uploaded to the Police Scotland Renfrewshire & Inverclyde page.
It read: “Officers across Renfrewshire have been working alongside bus service provider McGill’s, partners at Renfrewshire Council and British Transport Police to tackle recent reports of youth disorder and anti-social behaviour on the transport network.
“Renfrewshire Council is also providing diversionary activities for young people, offering positive alternatives, and helping to reduce disruptive behaviour.
“Officers have been deployed in both uniform and plain clothes to provide reassurance and actively engage with passengers. Officers have also identified and reported those involved in criminality.”
Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Alexandra Marshall, said: “Officers in Renfrewshire are committed to making the area a safe place to live, work and visit.
“Local officers are working in partnership to deter and detect offenders involved in anti-social behaviour. If you experience any issues in your local area, or have information regarding those responsible, please contact us to report your concerns.”
