Students with additional support needs at Forth Valley College will be raising funds for Strathcarron Hospice next week.

Stirling’s Lifestart students will support through their fundraising Christmas Craft and Market Fair, on Wednesday, December 11.

The group of eager and enthusiastic students on the Supported Education courses have prepared handmade items to sell, and have also received kind donations from other students in the college for sale on the day.

Products you can purchase include Christmas birch and holly candle holders, Christmas movie munchie boxes, Christmas tree decorations, Christmas cushions, amongst many other handmade items.

Lifestart is a class for young adults with additional support needs to exercise and learn independent living skills, and involvement in the community.

Lecturer, Angela MacLeod, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming staff and students, and other visitors to the event on Wednesday from 11.30am to 1pm, at the Stirling Campus. We ask if you could please bring cash to buy your items, thus enabling Lifestart students to practice money handling skills. You can also, if you wish, make a donation to Strathcarron Hospice.

“The students are also raffling a bike that has been generously donated by their Additional Support Worker, Evelyn Burgess, to be won by one lucky cyclist, just in time for Christmas.

“Raffle tickets can be bought any time from staff at the Stirling reception for only £3. Please just leave your name and contact details. The draw will also be made on Wednesday December 11, and the lucky winner will be contacted immediately.

“The students chose Strathcarron Hospice as it is a charity that has supported many families in the Forth Valley area, and so is very dear to most people. As an independent hospice, Strathcarron cares for over 1,400 people every year at a time when both they and their families need it most.

“The hospice philosophy is all about living life to the best until you die, and the team ensure people have every opportunity to achieve their goals, right up until the last moment. To do this, the charity needs to raise over £16,637 a day to keep its services running.

“Please support Lifestart as we fundraise for Strathcarron Hospice. Just £24 can pay for one hour of nursing care and really will make a difference.

“Thank you, from Lifestart Stirling students Christina, Ciaran, Reece, Alana, Sophie, Aleisha, and Mark.”
