Strathcarron Hospice is set to benefit from a Christmas fundraising event at Fairview International School, Bridge of Allan, organised by Year 11 student, Lewis Frickleton.
The 15-year-old has masterminded the event, which is set to take place on Saturday, December 7, as part of his Middle Years Programme Personal Project, Lewis hopes to help raise £1000 for Strathcarron, which provides specialist hospice care and expert end of life care for the people of Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
Each student within the Year 11 class must choose a topic of interest in which they are to explore, create and develop and finally report on the project and its impact. The topic can be an area of personal interest and aims to give the student the opportunity to consolidate their learnings and help them with skills that they can use beyond their time in the classroom. Each student is paired with a mentor relevant to their chosen topic who will help guide them to achieve their learning goals.
As part of his project, Lewis has encouraged his fellow classmates to run a stall at his Christmas Carnival event which aligns with Fairview’s FairBiz module. The module is used throughout the Fairview International campuses.
The FairBiz concept allows students to develop their business skills in a safe environment. As part of this, students will be given the opportunity to have their own stall at the school’s annual Christmas Carnival where they can sell homemade bakes, crafts and so on. At the end of the Christmas Carnival, students will donate 50 per cent of their overall profits to Strathcarron Hospice.
Fairview headteacher Victoria Gamble said: “We are so incredibly proud of Lewis and all his efforts in raising money for the fantastic Strathcarron Hospice.
“The Middle Years Personal Project is a great way for students to explore topics they are passionate about and aids them with overall confidence for their time beyond Fairview. As an International Baccalaureate delivering school, we want to support our students in becoming confident, principled, lifelong learners. Well done, Lewis.”
Lewis said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported the Christmas event and to all the businesses that have donated. I’ve really enjoyed organising the Christmas Carnival as part of my project and want to thank my mentor for all their help and guidance throughout the last few weeks. The project has helped me gain a range of skills and has improved my overall confidence. My fellow classmates and I would love to see you there and encourage anyone attending to support the Strathcarron Hospice where they can.”
Melissa Duffy, community fundraiser from Strathcarron Hospice, said: “Strathcarron Hospice is privileged to provide specialist palliative care, love and support free of charge to patients and their families across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
“Since 1981, we have been able to provide this vital care thanks to the incredible generosity of local people who help us to fund our daily running costs of £16,637.
“Please help us to continue to ‘make every moment count’. Thank you.”
