Dumfries and Galloway is set to be hit by gale force winds this weekend.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for wind much of Saturday ahead of the arrival of Storm Darragh, with the possibility of “danger to life” conditions.
A yellow weather warning has also been issued for Friday afternoon through to Saturday morning.
A Met Office forecaster said: A period of very strong northerly or northwesterly winds is likely to develop during Saturday as Storm Darragh moves from west to east.
“Gusts of 70 to 80mph are likely around exposed coasts and headlands, where some very large waves are likely, whilst gusts of 60 to 70mph are likely inland. The strongest winds will ease from the west through the afternoon.”
The amber warning covers southern parts of Dumfries and Galloway and will run from 3am until 7pm on Saturday, December 7.
The Met Office says there is a “good chance” that power cuts will occur – possibly affecting phone signals – longer journey times are likely and there could be damage to buildings.
Road closures are also expected and “injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties”.
The whole of Dumfries and Galloway is covered by a separate yellow wind warning, which takes effect at 3pm on Friday and runs until 6am on Sunday.
Gusts of 40 to 50mph are expected inland.
The expected arrival of Storm Darragh comes just a fortnight after Storm Bert brought heavy snow to parts of the region/
