Jeremy Vine was told to “behave” himself and wind his “neck in” by Vernon Kay, after he shared a controversial opinion.
In a recent episode of Vernon’s BBC Radio 2 show, co-star Jeremy shared that Dr Sarah Jarvis would be on the show to explain how she has the “bones of a 90-year-old” despite leading a healthy life, reports the Lancs Live.
Jeremy revealed that Dr Jarvis, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis, had “not had a croissant for 40 years.” This prompted Vernon to ask what was “wrong” with the much-loved French pastry, to which Jeremy replied: “Well, it’s bad. It’s unhealthy, isn’t it?”
“Ah, it’s full of just garbage, yeah; terrible,” Jeremy continued.
Vernon then suggested that a croissant could be enjoyed in “moderation,” but Jeremy disagreed, stating: “No, you don’t eat poison in moderation.”
The radio star was outraged by Jeremy’s comment and said: “Behave yourself! Wind your neck in, Vine! A croissant? Poison?” However, Jeremy stuck to his point, stating that you “wouldn’t drink petrol in moderation.”
Vernon joked: “That’s because it’s non-edible, Jeremy; that’s why. Don’t ever…If I ever catch you stood outside a BP with a petrol pump in your mouth, I will give you a thrashing.”
The NHS explains that osteoporosis is a condition that weakens the bones, making them more prone to fractures. However, it is often only diagnosed after someone breaks a bone, with the most common fractures being of the wrists, hips, or vertebrae.
Although it appears that healthy living is important within Vernon’s home as his wife Tess Daly, previously told the Good Food podcast that the word ‘diet’ is banned within their house.
She confessed that she thinks diets are “not sustainable in the long term”, instead she believes in adopting a “healthy nutritional meal plan”.

She stated “Moderation is everything, isn’t it?
“The minute we start to deny ourselves a little bit of what we fancy, whether that’s a chocolate bar in the afternoon, or a burger, if we start to deny ourselves it becomes a mind game, there’s just no point playing that game.”
