BERTRAM, Texas — An investigation is ongoing into a violent crash in Bertram that left a mother and her 2-year-old daughter dead.

Bertram police said multiple agencies responded to a crash involving several vehicles on State Highway 29 Tuesday night.

A woman, later identified as 31-year-old Patricia Torres-Jimenez, was found trapped in her vehicle and dead at the scene. Her daughter also died from injuries suffered in the crash after being ejected from the vehicle.

Police said Torres-Jimenez and her daughter were stopped in their Toyota preparing to turn into a laundromat along SH 29 when they were hit from behind by a woman in a Dodge Charger driving at highway speeds.

According to police, the crash sent the Toyota into oncoming traffic, hitting a semi-truck before the car was pushed back into the flow of traffic, hitting a BMW traveling westbound on SH 29. The car eventually stopped on the westbound shoulder of SH 29.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while no one else was injured in the crash.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed in the crash as they continue to investigate the incident.
