Netflix viewers have been raving about a series they’ve dubbed the ‘best thing’ since its release and now it is the perfect preparation before a new Amazon Prime series lands.

Secret Level is set to make a big impact with its arrival, adapting more than a dozen video game franchises into gripping narratives. The upcoming show promises to weave original stories while expanding existing universes and hails from the same ingenious team behind Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots.

This previous anthology captivated audiences with its unique, predominantly sci-fi, vignettes – some even crafted by esteemed writers such as Jon Scalzi and Ken Lieu.

Love, Death + Robots stands out for its eclectic mix of storytelling and animation styles, offering something for nearly every viewer in its three volume collection available on the streaming service.

Given the variety amongst episodes, Netflix conducted a curious experiment during the initial launch: different subscribers saw the episodes in different orders. The rationale behind the varied sequencing was never publicly confirmed, reports the Manchester Evening News. By 2019, however, Netflix standardized the episode sequence for all viewers.

A fan expressed their enthusiasm on Rotten Tomatoes, declaring it “one of the best things on Netflix ever”. For those eager to dive into Secret Level, there’s no better warm-up than indulging in some of Love, Death + Robots’ finest instalments. But which episodes should you queue up first? Here’s some of our top picks.

Three Robots

From Volume 1: Three robots embark on a holiday through a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been eradicated. A subsequent episode sees the trio continue their exploration, uncovering the reasons behind humanity’s extinction.

Suits

From Volume 1: If you’re eagerly anticipating the Armored Core adaptation, give this episode a watch first. It features mechanised suits, but with a twist – the occupants are farmers.

Blindspot

From Volume 1: This one’s for those excited about the Secret Level episode based on the cancelled hero shooter Concord. It follows a group of mercenaries attempting to steal a valuable microchip during a perilous heist.

Pop Squad

From Volume 2: Set in a distant future where reproduction is limited by the wealthy and powerful. Consequently, having children or ‘unregistered offspring’ is illegal, and those who defy this law face execution.

The episode centres around a police officer tasked with enforcing this law, whose beliefs are soon put to the test.

Snow in the Desert

From Volume 2: An albino man named Snow, seemingly immortal, finds himself pursued by bounty hunters. Everyone wants a piece of him, quite literally.

The Drowned Giant

From Volume 2: A colossal, naked corpse of an unidentified man washes up on the shore. Academics flock to study the giant, while locals also join in on the spectacle.

One academic muses over the discovery, including pondering the origins of the man as the body slowly decomposes.

Night of the Mini Dead

From Volume 3: This seven-minute episode showcases the breadth of imagination in the series. Using miniature models, it narrates an entire zombie apocalypse, from graveyard to world’s end.

In Vaulted Halls Entombed

From Volume 3: Several episodes focus on a group of soldiers in Love, Death + Robots. None are quite like the Warhammer Ultramarines set to feature in Secret Level. However, this episode sees them confronting a similar sinister force.

Mason’s Rats

From Volume 3: This episode blends the high-octane action of the series with its tongue-in-cheek humour. A Scottish farmer is compelled to deal with an army of hyper-evolved rats who have made his barn their home. They seem committed to protecting themselves by any means necessary.
