LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) – The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is searching for suspects involved in a string of armed robberies of USPS mail carriers.
Postal inspectors say three men carried out robberies of three different mail carriers on Nov. 25, in Louisville, Kentucky.
In a video posted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on X, the mail carrier is held at gunpoint and after a brief struggle, the suspect takes off with the mail carrier’s postal keys.
“One of our main jobs is to protect our people, along with the mail stream, and to see them go through such a traumatic event is very shocking, it’s upsetting, and it obviously inspires us to work harder to catch these individuals,” said postal inspector Jeff Sagrecy.
Sagrecy says the carrier’s postal keys were stolen in all three robberies. He says thieves will often go after postal keys so they can search through mailboxes.
“A lot of times they’re looking for checks from businesses and individuals that they can then alter and fraudulently negotiate with financial institutions,” Sagrecy said.
Sagrecy said one suspect has been arrested but has not been charged directly with committing the robberies.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering up to $150,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the remaining suspects.
The suspects were seen wearing black clothing and driving a white Audi sedan with a stolen Kentucky license plate. Anyone with information can call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455 and reference case number 4430600. All information will stay confidential.
