Two climbers were rescued from Glencoe after one was injured in a horror fall in “challenging” weather conditions.

On Friday, October 6, the Lochaber Mountain Rescue team raced to Buachaille Etive Mòr after receiving a call from Police Scotland about the incident. The Lochaber team were covering for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, who were enjoying their Christmas party.

A pair of climbers had gotten into a spat of bother when one suffered a shoulder injury from a terrifying fall in troubling snow conditions. Working alongside RAF Lossiemouth MRT, the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team managed to extract the casualty via a long multi stage rope lower over difficult ground, followed by a stretcher carry back to the road.

The rescue mission was the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team’s 160th callout this year. A post on their social media read: “Twas the night before our Christmas party, when all through the glen, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

“Our good friends Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team were enjoying a well deserved Christmas party on Friday night when we received a request from Police Scotland to assist a pair of climbers on Buachaille Etive Mòr, one of whom had fallen and sustained a shoulder injury.

“Through very challenging weather and snow conditions, we worked alongside RAF Lossiemouth MRT to extract the casualty via a long multi stage rope lower over difficult ground, followed by a stretcher carry back to the road. After a long night, everyone was back at base for breakfast by 8am, marking the end of our 160th callout of the year.

“Thanks to Coastguard R199 from Prestwick for their attempts to battle through the weather and save us a long night. Last night was our Christmas party so it was Glencoe MRTs turn for party cover – thankfully apart from the Ceilidh it was an uneventful night!”
