A running group took to the streets of Cambuslang for their annual festive fun run stopping off at some of the brightly decorated homes for Christmas in the area.

Wearing Christmas hats and festive head bands, the members of Cambuslang Jog Scotland group take the opportunity to do their bit for charity at this time of year, and this year they all donated toys before dropping them off at Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre, who will distribute them to children in the area at Christmas.

Zasha said: “We do this every year and call it the Zash Dash, or the Zash Dash and Splash because of the rain and puddles.

“This year we ran round the streets of Halfway, we go round the streets in the estates and we have a look at all the houses lit-up for Christmas and stop and take a few pictures. It’s just a bit of a change from our normal running.

“We also do a toy collection for charity and we took them up that night to Whitlawburn and handed them in to the resource centre after our run, we were all soaked. They were really happy with that. We keep the donations local to Rutherglen and Cambuslang.”

The runners’ route took in Cairns Road, Woodlands Crescent, MacArthur Wynd – where Zasha’s daughter Zowie handed out a sweet treat to the runners – down through Westburn and back to Morrisons where they’d started off from,

Zasha added: “We run every Tuesday, Thursday and on a Saturday. All together there’s six leaders and around 50 joggers who all come on different days. I’ve been with Jog Scotland for about three years and a leader for two years.

“I’ve always been a runner, but after lockdown and going back to work and getting older, you can kind of lose motivation to go out, so joining the club can help keep you more motivated and you’re meeting more people.”

“After becoming a leader I have no option and have to go now,” Zasha joked.

“We do anything between three and four miles, but we get people who have never ran before so I tend to hang around the back to the middle with beginners and slower runners. The ones at the front are obviously faster. But there’s no set times or distance, you do it at your own pace. There’s always at least one leader with the group.
