Many fans have claimed they feel ‘shamelessly robbed’ after watching an interview between Marvel stars Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield. The duo were paired up for the latest Actors on Actors video series from publication Variety.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars are teamed up each year to talk about the industry, their lives and craft. There are also videos that concentrate on some of the biggest directors and writers working in the industry. Also set to feature for the 2025 edition are the likes of Paul Mescal and Ariana Grande, and Nicole Kidman and Zendaya.
For the first instalment of the latest series, Ryan Reynolds chatted with Andrew Garfield. Both of which have donned a suit to play famous comic book characters in Deadpool and Spider-Man respectfully.
It is this connection between the pair that has left fans feeling short changed, as they are demanding they team up for a new movie. Fans have already seen the unexpected collaboration on the big screen of Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. This came after Garfield’s iteration of Spider-Man made a triumphant appearance in the MCU, alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.
Now, fans want to see Garfield’s version of Spidey beside the merc with a mouth. Posting in the video’s comment section on YouTube, one fan said: “Man, every time I see those two together, I can’t help but think about how we were shamelessly robbed of the greatest bromance with Deadpool and Spidey on the big screen… Their chemistry is truly unmatched! And what pains me even more is that, for some reason, no director sees how amazing these two would be together in the same movie!”
Another added: “Shawn Levy (Deadpool director) said he’s interested in directing a Deadpool and Spider-Man movie and I originally preferred it to be with Tom but now I definitely see the hype for Andrew.”
Others conspired that after it was confirmed Robert Downy Jr will be returning to the franchise in a shock move as villain Dr Doom. then why couldn’t they find a way for Reynolds and Garfield to team up in Secret Wars? One fan posted: “I hope they’re cast in Secret Wars and their characters interact. It would be hilarious.”
Another agreed: “God their chemistry is so good together, kind of makes me wish we can see them in some team up movie down the line like Secret Wars. The jokes and everything with them would be so hilarious. Love how much care they have for their comic book counterparts, they’re perfect.”
Reynolds briefly mentioned the future of his antihero character after the film picked up a Golden Globe nomination this week for cinematic achievement. When asked by Garfield what is the future of Deadpool, he suggested he could appear in ‘someone else’s film’ like a possible Gambit outing with Channing Tatum.
He added: “I don’t know. Honestly, my feeling is that the character works very well in two ways. One is scarcity and surprise. So it had been six years since the last one, and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. I have four kids, and I don’t ever want to be an absentee [dad]. I kind of die inside when I see their faces and they do a sports thing or something and I missed it. I don’t know what the future of Deadpool will be, but I do know that we made the movie to be a complete experience instead of a commercial for another one.”
