Plumes of smoke and large flames can be seen as 13 fire appliances tackle a “well-developed” blaze at a paper mill in Fife.

Emergency services rushed to Sapphire Paper Mill on Glenwood Road, Leslie, just before 5.15am on Tuesday.

Nearby residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said 13 fire appliances and specialist resources have been sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.14am on Tuesday, 10 December to reports of a building fire within the town of Leslie, Fife.

“Operations Control has since mobilised 13 fire appliances and several specialist resources to the town’s Glenwood Road.

“Firefighters continue work to extinguish a well-developed fire within a large industrial building. There are no reported casualties.”

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown.

Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
