Blackpink’s Jisoo is set to swap the stage for the screen in a new zombie K-drama penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Han Jin-won. The series, Newtopia, is based on Han Sang-woon’s novel, Influenza, and follows a young couple, Lee Jae-yoon and Kang Young-joo, who part ways due to the strain of Jae-yoon’s compulsory military service.
However, a sudden zombie outbreak in Seoul sets them on a path to reunite.

Newtopia is set to make its global debut on Friday, February 7, on Prime Video in the UK and on Coupang Play for viewers in South Korea.
The show will air weekly episodes until Friday, March 21, with Prime Video streaming it across more than 240 territories, reports the Mirror.
Jisoo steps into the shoes of Young-joo, marking her second significant on-screen role following her appearance in the Korean romance drama Snowdrop.
Who else is on the cast?
The cast also includes Park Jeong-min as Jisoo’s love interest Lee Jae-yoon, along with Im Sung-jae, Kim Jun-han and Jung-Min Park. The script is the work of Han Jin-won, known for his Academy Award-winning film Parasite, and Ji Ho-jin, best known for his action series A Shop For Killers, available on Disney+.
The forthcoming zombie series is directed by award-winning director Yoon Sung-hyun, best known for his debut film Bleak Night.
Newtopia plot
The official synopsis of Newtopia reads: “Jae-yoon, who started his mandatory military conscription later in life, grapples with anxiety about his future. His relationship with his girlfriend Young-joo faces challenges due to their separation, leading to a sudden break up following an argument. However, when a zombie outbreak engulfs the city, Jae-yoon is forced to take charge of his squad.
“On the other hand, Young-joo, a newcomer in the workforce, faces her own set of challenges. She feels misunderstood by Jae-yoon and is frustrated with him. While on her way to meet him, she encounters the zombie rampage and must adapt quickly to survive.”
