MasterChef viewers were quick to call out Gregg Wallace for making a provocative comment on Tuesday night’s show.

MasterChef: The Professionals’ aired on BBC on Tuesday, as the last three chefs battled to win a space in Thursdays finale. During the show the chefs travelled to Cork, Ireland to take on multiple challenges in professional restaurant kitchens.

As the chefs were away from their usual kitchen set up, Gregg and the usual judge didn’t make an appearance until it was time to judge the final dishes, reports the Mirror.

However, fans quickly noticed that Gregg made a crude joke about one of the chef’s dishes. He jokingly remarked: “You’ve got firm little dumplings in there”.

Fans took to social media to express their opinion on the joke, as one fan pointed out: “Gregg loving his ‘firm little dumplings’ #MasterChefTheProfessionals,” with another responding, “dead” alongside a skull and crossbones emoji.

Whilst some found the joke as hilarious, but one viewer guessed that Gregg would regret his wording, writing: “Gregg Wallace on Masterchef tonight ‘you’ve got firm little dumplings in there’ …..bet you wish you hadn’t said that now”.

Fans of the show started to think that Gregg might be wishing he could take back his suggestive remark after he was put on investigation due to historic complaints that he’d made “sexual comments” whilst filming MasterChef.

With Newsnight host Kirsty Wark among several people who have accused the TV presenter of making inappropriate and sexual comments or jokes.

The MasterChef presenter stepped down from the show a couple of weeks ago due to the ongoing investigation, but took to social media to respond to the accusations with a series of posts on Instagram.

In these posts Gregg denied having taken part in any wrongdoing.

Gregg’s comment follows the claims that MasterChef production Banijay, might be trying to edit him out of pre-filmed episodes of the show. As an insider claimed that editing footage might be a more practical option than scrapping the footage all together.

The next series of the show will feature amateur chefs, as opposed to the original professional show and celebrity spin off, which has already been filmed. One BBC insider alleged that Banijay could still use the footage rather than ditching it or re-recording it, as they could crop Gregg out of wide shots and getting rid of his solo footage.

A source told the Daily Mail: “John and Gregg were always shot with separate cameras. Any two shots, or wide shots containing the pair can be cut. Removing Gregg entirely is a difficult task, but not an impossible one.”

Although another insider claimed that the BBC had not decided yet whether to remove Gregg, and were at a loss of what to do moving forward.

“The Beeb won’t even say if they’ll attempt to edit him out of the programme, though that would be virtually impossible to do anyway,” they told The Sun. “This is a nightmare for execs because it’s one of the most expensive MasterChef series that’s been made as this one was filmed abroad.”
