Parents have complained after their kids were already on their way to Bathgate Academy when it was closed due to heating issues.

Some pupils had already arrived at the school while others were on the bus.

Parents claim it was short notice and the council was aware of problems with the heating on Monday.

One said: “Issues from Monday yet choose 8.15am to decide to send them back home leaving people stuck for childcare etc, when it wasn’t sorted at end of day yesterday would have been a good time to notify people considering last night’s temperatures.”

Another said: “Magic when half the wains are on a bus to School when decision is made total joke.”

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Bathgate Academy was closed on Wednesday, 11 December, due to heating issues.

“We are continuing to work with Mears/Alpha Schools, who are responsible for maintenance of the building under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements, to find a permanent solution to the ongoing heating issues at the school.”
