BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Department of Justice announced that a Raleigh County man pleaded guilty to being in a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents and court statements, law enforcement responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Stanford area o Raleigh County on Sept. 12, 2023. Officers found 29-year-old Brian Trent and another person in the vehicle. The Department of Justice said officers found that the vehicle was reported stolen in South Carolina and that Trent was wanted on an active misdemeanor warrant, and a parole violation.

The Department of Justice said officers also recovered several firearms including the following:

  • Taurus model G2 9mm pistol
  • North American .22-caliber magnum revolver
  • Marlin model 60 .22-caliber rifle
  • Noble model 60H 12-gauge shotgun
  • Taurus .32-caliber revolver

Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from having a firearm or ammunition.

Trent is scheduled for sentencing on April 4, 2025, and the Department of Justice said he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
