BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – It was a special moment Thursday for a 6-year-old boy from Bedford who loves Dunkin’ Donuts and whose creative Halloween costume caught the attention of the brand.
When River Crouch left his house Thursday morning, he thought it was just another day. But when he walked into Dunkin’ Donuts, he was greeted with a surprise that turned his love for donuts into a dream come true. For an hour, River got to work as an honorary crew member, complete with his very own custom uniform. He even received a $500 gift card, a plaque in his honor, and donuts made just for him.
“Dunkin’s all about spreading joy and positivity in our local communities, so when we came across this story, it was the perfect opportunity to highlight some really great positivity right here in Bedford, Virginia,” said Emilly Bartels, Dunkin’ Field Marketing Manager.
River’s love for Dunkin’ started with a Sunday tradition. Every week, he and his mom, Paige Crouch, visit their local store for a donut.
“He’s a special little boy, and he makes everybody happy. To know we got to have a special day like this—it means a lot to us and to him,” said Paige Crouch, River’s mom.
River’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. Born prematurely at just 26 weeks and weighing only one pound, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy before his first birthday. But he’s never let anything hold him back. Now a kindergartner, River loves school, spending time with friends, and playing adaptive sports like baseball and soccer. His teacher, Mattison Drinkwater, says his determination inspires everyone around him.
“I am so, so proud of him and everything he has accomplished so far this school year. It’s only been a few short months, and this is the smartest boy I’ve ever met,” said Drinkwater.
Through multiple surgeries and countless hours of hard work, River continues to overcome every obstacle.
“He’s worked really hard to get where he is today. He’s overcome a lot, and I’m just proud of him and all he dose,” said Crouch.
