A badly-damaged crash barrier at a busy road in Ravenscraig has been repaired.
On approach to the A723 roundabout from New Craig Road, sections of the metal structure had been significantly damaged, with part of the barrier close to touching the ground.
There has been reports of a persistent problem at New Craig Road with cars driving too fast and crashing into the barriers at the side of the carriageway, particularly at roundabouts.
Scottish Conservative Councillor for Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig, Nathan Wilson said: “Ravenscraig is a popular active travel corridor with people regularly walking, running and cycling on the route and it is important that motorists are mindful of their speed when driving through the former steelworks land.
“The major damage to the sections of the crash barrier on New Craig Road and in close proximity to the A723 roundabout sadly indicates that a vehicle collided with the metal structure at speed.
“Part of the barrier had been almost toppled to the ground and with protection for pedestrians who make use of the adjacent pavement weakened in the event of a similar incident, it was important for the railings to be replaced.
“I want to thank the roads service for the quick response to my representation and it is welcome that the significantly weakened parts of the barrier at the A723 roundabout were promptly replaced.
“It is also welcome that some sections of the crash barrier structure with more minor damage and near to the housing estate with residential streets including Hoy Gardens, Cook Crescent and Peacock Wynd have been repaired.”
