BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Beginning Dec. 13, FEMA will have ground teams out in Mercer County to assist those affected by Hurricane Helene.
Members of the ground team will be in yellow vests that say FEMA on the back, and will have identification on them.
They will be going door to door in the community to provide information and assistance on registering for possible damage reparations.
“We give information on how they can register. We get them registered. We give assistance to whomever may qualify. We’re just here to make sure everyone gets registered, those that need our assistance,” said Lori, Crew Lead of the Disaster Survivor Assistance Specialists.
“I’m very excited. I really appreciate our board in the county, the Governor, and the state for all the messaging and pushing this forward so we can get FEMA here,” said Cecil Marson, City Manager of Bluefield. “That day has come and I’m very excited and anxious to get them out to the community and start giving assistance where they can.”
There will also be a Disaster Recovery Center set up at MapleView Church beginning on Monday Dec. 16. They are located at 194 Robins Rest Road in Bluefield W.Va., which is next to the Mercer Mall.
