Fans of the crime drama Vera, who are saddened by its upcoming end, can find comfort in the return of another beloved series as Brenda Blethyn’s iconic character makes her final appearance.

Earlier this year, fans around the world were disappointed when ITV executives announced that Vera would be concluding after a 14-year run and 14 series.

Brenda Blethyn first took on the role of the formidable DCI Vera Stanhope in 2011, donning the now-iconic trench coat and fishing hat, unaware of just how popular the show would be, reports the Manchester Evening Times.

Vera consistently drew millions of viewers on ITV and earned international popularity, with audiences from the U.S, Japan, and Australia tuning in to follow DCI Stanhope and her colleagues in the Northumberland and City Police.

However, ITV isn’t holding back on its crime drama lineup for the New Year. The network has confirmed the highly anticipated return of Grantchester next month, just a week after Vera concludes.

The ninth series of the drama, starring Robson Green, is set to premiere on January 8. A key storyline will focus on the departure of Tom Brittney’s beloved character, Reverend Will Davenport.
